Projects & Engineering, RDT

RDT Engineering, which specialises in the design and construction of recycling facilities, has been selected to design and commission South Australia’s newest Material Recycling Facility (MRF) in Adelaide.

With a capacity of 70,000 tonnes per year, the facility is designed to meet the waste management needs of three local councils. Its aim is to manage recycling materials more efficiently and effectively, ultimately creating a more resilient recycling sector for the region.

The project involved the manufacturing of various steel components including platforms, handrails, stairs, modular conveyors, associated chutes and guarding.

Solution
Seeking a comprehensive approach, RDT partnered with LEED, whose total solution strategy covering steel component fabrication, surface treatment and logistics seamlessly matched RDT’s needs.

Throughout the project, LEED effectively managed the entire supply chain, from procurement to fabrication, coating and timely delivery to site. It provided RDT with a seamless and efficient solution that met all the project’s requirements.

Customer benefits
The collaboration between RDT and LEED presented a multi-faceted supply chain solution offering RDT a partner-driven approach to address all relevant project challenges. It ensured that the project was delivered smoothly, on time and on budget. RDT realised tangible benefits, including cost savings, reduced lead times and improved quality control, thanks to LEED’s expertise and streamlined supply chain management.

Environmental benefits
The MRF is having a significant positive impact on the management of the region’s residential and commercial waste. Now fully operational, the facility efficiently processes a wide range of waste materials and yields high quality recyclates, including paper, aluminium, five types of plastic and glass, resulting in a significant reduction in waste sent to landfill.

The successful collaboration between RDT and LEED in the construction of South Australia’s newest materials recycling facility in Adelaide reflects a seamless partnership that delivers both operational efficiency and environmental responsibility. The MRF is a testament to what can be achieved when industry leaders come together to address pressing project challenges. This notable achievement has paved the way for additional joint projects building RDT recycling facilities in locations such as Sunshine Coast and Hallam.
